A History of Excellence

American Safety Institute began with classroom training for new and experienced drivers in the state of Florida. Our programs have been studied and used by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, and proven to be extremely effective. Today, we have prospered into offering over 20 different courses, which include classroom, online, and behind-the-wheel driving lessons in numerous states.

We take great pride in our instructors; who have years of experience and impressive, state approved credentials for instructing students on becoming safer drivers. All of our instructors are current or retired law enforcement or have a background in traffic and safety. They all go through extensive training and must be certified by the state of Florida. We set such high standards for each instructor to meet so that we continue to be one of the best.

Founder

Bart Cassidy Sr., has dedicated over 30 years of experience in delivering the best instruction, methods, and strategies on defensive driving. He started his career as an officer with the New York Police Department; he now is the proud owner of one of Florida’s best Driving and Traffic Safety Schools in the United States.

John Kellerman

John Kellerman has 7 ½ years of military experience before getting in law enforcement. In 22 ½ years in law enforcement John is a general instructor and has multiple high liability instructor qualifications. He was a Traffic Homicide Investigator for 6 years and a Crime Scene Detective for 4 years. He has Crisis Intervention training and is a State of Florida Certified Commercial Driving School Instructor. During his off-time John spends time with his family. He also enjoys hunting and fishing and “Jeeping” with friends.

Dave Aldridge

Dave Aldridge was born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida. He graduated from Leon High School and earned an AS degree in Law Enforcement at Tallahassee Community College. In college, he was employed with the Florida Department of Corrections for two years. His career in Law Enforcement began in 1988 with the Tallahassee Police Department and ended in April 2019 after 31 ½ years. He held many positions within the Patrol Division, such as the D.A.R.E. program, Transport Officer, Chief Advisor of the Cadet Program, Field Training Officer, and Traffic Homicide Investigation. Dave is married to his wife, Patty and has three children and two grandchildren.

Ryan Hartle

Ryan Hartle, originally from Jacksonville, has lived in Tallahassee since 2006. He joined American Safety Institute in 2019 as a certified driving instructor. Pursuing his passion for teaching and athletics, Ryan has a BS in Physical Education from Florida A&M University and holds an athletic coaching certificate and driver education endorsement. Ryan has also worked at the FL Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services since 2015 and currently serves as a regulatory consultant. In his free time, he enjoys playing city league softball and basketball. Ryan and his wife, Sarah, have been married since 2013 and have two young children.

My 16 year old daughter took a two hour course with Ryan and it was the best experience for her. Ryan was easy to talk to and made her feel very much at ease behind the wheel. I enrolled my 18 year old son for 6 hours of behind the wheel training and the DMV test. I was very impressed from the first phone call. The customer service is as good and the driving training. Because we were stationed in Germany, during, what most would consider, his early driving years, he had little to no driving experience. It did not help matters that we were not there with him. So, I enrolled him, and needless to say, upon completion, he went on to get his driver’s license.
